Margaretha Jackson nee Kelch nee Drollinger

BIOGRAPHY
Margaret was of German extraction being the daughter of Gabriel Drollinger and Anna Margaretha Lottholtz both of whom were born in Ellmendingen, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.
Her first husband was Philip Kelch whom she married on November 23, 1764 in Salem, New Jersey. Philip was born in Salem, New Jersey, in 1739 or 1740. But he passed away unexpectedly barely 30 years of age on January 24, 1771 in Salem New Jersey. This union produced at least three children, to wit
1. Susannah Kelch, b. September 8, 1765 in Salem, New Jersey and d. April 20, 1858, New Holland, Fayette Ohio.
2. Leonard Kelch, b. Nov. 12, 1767 in Salem, New Jersey and d. July 1848, Tyler County, Virginia
(now West Virginia). Note that there is also an unlikely date of 1763 in an affidavit requesting a pension.
3. Elizabeth Kelch, b. about 1770.
4. George Kelch (uncertain).
Some three years after her first husband’s death, she became acquainted with Samuel Jackson who was four or more years her junior. Samuel had been born July 27, 1749 in either Ireland or in Salem, New Jersey. They were married on February 3, 1773, in Swedesboro in Gloucester County, New Jersey. Samuel died on May 27, 1833 at his farm in George's Creek Valley, Allegany, Maryland.
On May 10, 1775, the three children from her first marriage were officially made the wards of David Allen who had been a fellow bondsman of Philip Kelch and had inventoried his estate on his passing.

Samuel left his wife and children to enlist in the Continental Army fighting for American Independence on February 22, 1776 and served until honorably discharged at Morristown, New Jersey, on March 23, 1777. He then returned to his home in Salem, New Jersey but around 1780 moved to a farm in East Pennsboro Township of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Later in about 1783 he moved his family to the George's Creek Hundred area of Allegany County, Maryland.
