PARENTS

 

Her parents lived in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg (before unification of German states into the modern country) where she was born and whose capital was Stuttgart ruled by a local king.
They were married in Germany.  She was related to the local royal family.

 

Her father was Johann Georg Siegle (b. September 24, 1812- in Germany) who was a miller and owned the local flour mill.  Her father’s parents were Ferdinand Siegle (1788-) and Margaretta Siegle nee Kaiser (1790-).

Her mother was Katharina Barbara Siegle nee Schlecht (b. Wurttemberg, Germany, January 19, 1814-).  Her mother’s parents were Johann Frederich Schlecht (1771-1842) and Maria Katharina Schlecht nee Briem (1777-1837).

 

PARENTS’ STORY

 

 Her father died on the voyage to America having contracted typhoid fever and leaving her mother with five children.   Her mother’s siblings included
    Frederike Sigle (1839-) who married a Mr. Graber in California
    Johannes Sigle (1841-) who had a farm in Missouri

    Ferdinand Sigle (1844-) who learned the harness trade and moved to Kansas producing a large family

    Kathryn (Christiana) Sigle (1846-) who married Louis Werner
Her mother sought help from relatives in New York; and they eventually took her to Indiana where she bought a farm.  Her mother never learned to speak English.  Eventually her mother sold the farm which later was discovered to have coal deposits that were mined.  Her mother then moved to live with her daughter and son-in-law Jacob Werner on their farm close to Fairwater, Wisconsin.

 

MARRIAGE

 

Margaretta Barbara Siegle married Jacob Werner (1832-1917) in Floria, Ohio.  She had four children two of whom survived, to wit George Werner and Francis Henry Werner (1856-1956).  Her children were

    Francis Henry (harness maker and musician)
    Bertha (died at age two)

    Kathryn (died at birth)

    George (had four wives and earned his living as an actor)
